Looking to upgrade your home with hardwood flooring?
It’s a no-brainer that these days many homeowners are choosing hardwood flooring over their existing carpet or wish to revamp their current hardwood flooring. But it can sometimes be intimidating to know which steps to take in the beginning process of choosing new flooring. Dave’s Floor Sanding & Installing, Inc. has all the answers to those frequently asked questions and is here to help you with your entire flooring process.
Beginning Steps Of New Flooring
Before making any other major decisions regarding your floor project, you first need to consider when you want them done. If you’re going off the weather and seasons, it actually doesn’t matter what time of the year you choose to get your floors done. Many people assume that summertime would be better, but it’s more about what works best for your family and schedule, not the time of year.
Having your floors redone is a project that may disrupt your regular routine. There are different variables depending on what type of floor project it is. Whether you are installing brand new hardwood floors or refinishing existing floors, the project’s length differs in certain situations and homes,
Refinishing an Existing Floor vs. Installing a New Floor
We want your floors to look the best, whether it’s a brand new installation or removing the wear and tear from those old pre-existing floors. The processes for each are a little different. Refinishing your existing floors deals with a complete sand & finish process that typically takes about 1-3 days. We start by sanding the entire floor, reaching that original raw wood, and staining it (if you choose). The finish process consists of a one coat sealer and two coats of polyurethane, making those years of wear & tear disappear in a matter of days.
Ditching old carpets for new hardwood floors is typically a longer process to plan for. A lot goes into the process, including sizing and cutting the boards to fit your specific space; depending on the materials and the size of the planks, the process may take a couple of weeks or longer. But with this option, you are able to choose from a variety of beautiful floor types that Dave’s offers. It also ensures a final sealant to make those floors last.
Before We Begin Your Wood Floors
A couple of things go into preparing your home before we show up. Make sure the process goes smoothly with these simple steps before our start date.
- Remove all furniture from the space
- For installation of hardwood floors, rip up any carpet, including strips and staples
- Remove any linoleum or vinyl floor covering
- Remove any baseboards and trim (you can reuse them once the project is complete)
- To cut down on dust invading your home, hang plastic in doorways, clear countertops completely, keep all food sealed and put away, and seal all cupboards and drawers with painter’s tape.
If you aren’t the type to get your hands dirty, we offer services for tear out and disposal as well as hanging plastic, all for an extra charge.
