Wood Floor Buckling
Moisture is a necessary element to healthy skin, but to your hardwood flooring it can be a nightmare. If humidity levels in your home are not managed properly it can lead to a number of problems, one of them being buckled floors.
Buckling occurs when your hardwood flooring swells due to the moisture content in the air or water on the flooring itself. As the wood begins to swell it has nowhere else to go but up, pulling away from the subfloor surface. Buckling can also occur due to inadequate nailing, insufficient nails or improper subfloor construction. It is also common for buckling to occur when a room has been flooded. The more time the water remains on the hardwood floor the more damage is done.
While buckling is not a common occurrence, it does happen and when it does the issue needs to be addressed as soon as possible. It is important to find the source of the problem and not just have the repairs made, as it will happen again. If the issue is caught early enough, though, minor repairs may be the answer, but again, the longer you wait, the more damage is being done.
This is one of the reasons it is best to have knowledgeable flooring contractors come into your home and do a thorough assessment. They cannot only determine if it is a moisture issue, but they can help you to alleviate the issue so once repairs are done you will not deal with it again.
